The winners of the 63rd annual Texaco Children’s Art Competition were announced today.

The competition awards prizes for art pieces to young people of ages of 6 to 18 years, while also having a category for children with special needs.

The overall winner of the competition this year is Lucy Deegan, a 17-year-old from Gaelcholáiste Cheatharlach in Askea, County Carlow. Her picture, titled ‘Tom – Summer’, beat out over 120 other submissions.

Lucy will go on to the 18th International High School Arts Festival in the National Arts Center in Tokyo, Japan after being invited by the International Foundation for Arts and Culture. She has also been invited to attend an Awards Ceremony which will take place at the Ritz-Carlton in Tokyo on the 9th of August 2017.

Category B – “Self Portrait” – Méabh Scahill – Sutton Park School – Co. Dublin

Category C – “Self Portrait” – Amy Zhao – Scoil na gCeithre Maistrí – Co. Westmeath

Category D – “Self Portrait” – Ava Henson – The Harold School – Co. Dublin

Category E – “Ruby May” – Noah James Flynn – Scoil Bhride – Co. Galway

Category F – “Daisies” – Eibhlin Murphy – St. Joseph’s Girls National School – Co. Cork

Category G – “Peafowl in the Forest” – James Wellwood – Colaiste Mhuire – Co. Kilkenny
